TRANSMISSION DATE: 05-02-2014 The famous magician Aleister Crowley defined magick as: âthe Science and Art of causing Change to occur in conformity with Will,â He went on to state that: âMagick is the Science of understanding oneself and oneâs conditions. It is the Art of applying that understanding in action.â
If one replaces the term âmagickâ with âstrength training or bodybuilding,â they will see it as perfectly applicable. As stated in the first part of this series, we know that weightlifting is not an entirely physical process, but a mental one as well â here, we will go further by stating that it is a blend of the mental, the physical, and the divinely spiritual, as man seeks to make of himself a god by elevating that triad to the highest form he is able.
To do this, he must learn to act in tandem with his Will, that is, the goals he has chosen to achieve must be like the unfailing light of the North star â his gaze must be solely fixed on its piercing light, and all distraction and illusion must be cast aside.
â One must find out for oneself, and make sure beyond doubt, who one is, what one is, why one is⦠Being thus conscious of the proper course to pursue, the next thing is to understand the conditions necessary to following it out. After that, one must eliminate from oneself every element alien or hostile to success, and develop those parts of oneself which are specially needed to control the aforesaid conditions.â
Inconsistency, lack of dedication to a chosen goal, a spirit easily broken, and compromising onesâ initial plans are diseases that plague the world, and this is especially true in the gym. I have heard, ad nauseam, individuals laud their newly chosen program, their new diet, their new split, whatever, raising it up on a pedestal of perfection, praising the massive gains they have seen through its application, and exhorting you to come over to their side of things, where the grass is green as a shining emerald⦠for a few weeks. Then, invariably, they become frustrated with early plateau, gains are not coming as fast as theyâd like anymore, the workouts are too hard or too easy, âthings just arenât working anymore.â
Here is a statement you can hold close to your heart as a perfect truth in the world of strength training: If you lift heavy weight, and eat a lot of (good) food, you will grow in size and become stronger. This is a fact. It is not a secret.
